Award of Arms - Usually the first award a gentle will receive in the Society, an Award of Arms is given for service that enhances the game for others in some way. Recipients may style themselves ‘Lord’, ‘Lady’ or ‘Noble’. The following will automatically provide an Award of Arms if they do not yet have one.
Award of the Maiden’s Heart - Given to individuals who have performed exemplary service to Ealdormere and who demonstrate courteous and chivalrous behaviour. Recipients who do not already have an Award of Arms receive one automatically with this award; and may style themselves ‘Lord’, ‘Lady’ or ‘Noble’. This award may be given more than once.
Award of Orion - Given to individuals who have demonstrated skill in the arts and sciences and who demonstrate courteous and chivalrous behaviour. Recipients who do not already have an Award of Arms receive one automatically with this award; and may style themselves ‘Lord’, ‘Lady’ or ‘Noble’. This award may be given more than once.
The Award of the Scarlet Banner - Given to individuals who have demonstrated skill in a martial discipline approved within Ealdormere, and who demonstrate courteous and chivalrous behaviour both on and off the field. Recipients who do not already have an Award of Arms receive one automatically with this award; and may style themselves ‘Lord’, ‘Lady’ or ‘Noble’. This award may be given more than once.
Grant of Arms - Given at the pleasure of the Crown, generally for an outstanding achievement which cannot be encompassed by any of the Grant-level Orders. Recipients may style themselves ‘The Honourable’. These awards may be given more than once.
Order of the Wain - Given to individuals who have performed exemplary and long-standing service to Ealdormere in a variety of different areas; who present a reasonably authentic appearance; and who provide an example of courtesy and chivalry worthy of emulation. Recipients who do not already have a Grant of Arms receive one automatically with this award. Recipients may style themselves ‘The Honourable’.
Order of the Crucible - Given to individuals who have demonstrated skill in a variety of arts and sciences, including a high level (journeyman) skill in at least one discipline; who have demonstrated a knowledge of period techniques; who have demonstrated the ability to research and the willingness to teach arts and sciences-related skills; and who provide an example of courtesy and chivalry worthy of emulation. Recipients who do not already have a Grant of Arms receive one automatically with this award. Recipients may style themselves ‘ ‘The Honourable’.
Order of Thorbjorn’s Hammer - Given to individuals who have exhibited excellence in a martial activity approved in Ealdormere; who demonstrate a knowledge of related skills and/or of other martial disciplines; who demonstrate a leadership role in a martial activity, including a willingness to teach; who present a reasonably authentic appearance; and who provide an example of courtesy and chivalry worthy of emulation. Recipients who do not already have a Grant of Arms receive one automatically with this award. Recipients may style themselves ‘The Honourable’.
Other Honours Conveying Precedence
Court Barony - Given at the pleasure of the Crown to individuals who provide the gift of inspiration and uphold the ideals of the Society; who present a reasonably authentic appearance; and who provide an example of courtesy and honour worthy of emulation. Often given to retiring Territorial Barons and Baronesses (see below). Recipients may wear a silver coronet adorned with six spheroids (generally pearls), may style themselves as ‘Baron’ or ‘Baroness’, and may be addressed as ‘Your Excellency’.
Territorial Barony - Territorial Barons and Baronesses are chosen by the Crown (based on recommendations provided by the populace) to hold a Barony in fief. Territorial Barons and Baronesses may wear a gold coronet adorned with six spheriods (generally pearls), may style themselves as ‘Baron’ or ‘Baroness’, and may be addressed as ‘Your Excellency’.
Viscounty - Given automatically to individuals who complete a reign as Territorial Prince or Princess. Recipients may wear an embattled silver coronet, may style themselves as ‘Viscount’ or ‘Viscountess’, and may be addressed as ‘Your Excellency’.
County - Given automatically to individuals who complete one reign as King or Queen. Recipients may wear an embattled gold coronet, may style themselves as ‘Count’ (or Earl) or ‘Countess’, and may be addressed as ‘Your Excellency’.
Duchy - Given automatically to individuals who complete a second reign as King or Queen. Recipients may wear a coronet adorned with strawberry leaves, may style themselves as ‘Duke’ or ‘Duchess’, and may be addressed as ‘Your Grace’.
Awards which convey no precedence
Scroll of Honour - The Scroll of Honour is a record of worthy deeds of the people and friends of Ealdormere. Such worthy deeds may include, but not be restricted to, the receipt of any Kingdom awards. The names of those accomplishing such worthy deeds shall be entered fittingly on the Scroll of Honour at the discretion of the Crown.
Award of the Wolf’s Cub - Given to children of twelve years and under who have served beyond their years and set an example to others. Recipients may style themselves as “Wolf’s Cubs”.
Award of the Queen’s Favour - Given by the Queen of Ealdormere as She sees fit.
Award of the King’s Favour - Given by the King of Ealdormere as He sees fit.
Baronial Awards
Barony of Skraeling Althing
Bunny Tail: This is usually the first Baronial recognition a person gets and is used to acknowledge that a newcomer is now “one of us” and is a valued member of the Barony. Note: a synthetic “tail” of faux fur is available by request. Carrots of Excellence: A Carrot of Excellence recognizes the actions of an individual or group who went above and beyond, did something particularly kind, or otherwise deserves informal recognition for deeds in the Barony. While the other baronial awards tend to be for a cumulative contribution, a carrot is an on-the-spot way Their Excellencies can say “We saw that, and it was awesome!” Carrots may be given to any society citizen.
Great Chalice of Skraeling Althing: This award is given to an individual or individuals who are seen as exemplars of authenticity in their recreation, and whose qualities of service, hospitality, courtesy, dress and deportment are foremost. Specifically, it recognizes the person or persons who have advanced the cause of authenticity in diverse aspects of Baronial life. This award is open to any member of the Barony regardless of rank or office. As this award will make the recipient(s) the Baronial Cup Bearer(s), it will be presented in succession.
Order of the Black Hare: This award is given in recognition of outstanding achievement and contributions to the Arts and Sciences within the Barony of Skraeling Althing.
Order of the Friends of the Hare: This award is the equivalent of the Order of the Hare Salient, but is given to people from outside the Barony of Skraeling Althing or to people who are leaving the Barony to move elsewhere.
Order of the Hare Salient: This is the Baronial-level service award and is given for outstanding service to the Barony of Skraeling Althing.
Order of the Hare Valiant: This award is given in recognition of outstanding achievement and contributions to the Martial Arts within the Barony of Skraeling Althing. The “Martial Arts” include: armoured combat, rapier combat, archery and equestrian activities.
Order of the Hare Argent: This award is is given in recognition of longstanding and ongoing contributions to the Barony. It recognizes an individual who has demonstrated leadership and mentoring, and has been an ambassador for the Barony to the rest of Ealdormere and beyond. The individual is part of the foundation of what we know as Skraeling Althing, and the Barony would be a poorer place without them.
Order of the Tantony: This award is given in recognition of outstanding achievement and contributions within the SCA by a member of the Barony of Skraeling Althing who is less than 16 years of age. The Tantony is the smallest bell in a carillon of bells. Even the smallest voice contributes to the harmony of the Barony.
Barony of Septentria
The Award of the Bear’s Claw (ABC) - This Award was created at the 10th Pennsic War and was given to those gentles who gave a significant contribution to the war effort. It is now bestowed at any Septentrian Court to recognize martial efforts.
The Order of the Bear’s Heart (OBH) - The Order of the Bear’s Heart is given to gentles for their extraordinary dedication and service to Septentria. The kind of service is not prescribed, merely that the service be long-standing and of significant import to the Barony.
The Award of the Golden Bear (AGB) - This award is the Barony of Septentria’s Arts and Sciences Award. As the Bear’s Claw recognizes martial skill or contributions, and the Bear’s Heart recognizes service and dedication, the Golden Bear recognizes excellence within the arts and sciences.
The Award of the Bear’s Cub (BC) - This award is given to children of Septentria in recognition of exceptional service, martial activities or other displays of skills and prowess.

Award of the Chalice's Crystal - Given for any manner of service rendered unto the Barony with courtesy, chivalry and graciousness.
Award of the Silver Chalice - Continued service rendered unto the Barony with courtesy, chivalry and graciousness.
Order of the Golden Chalice - Given for selfless, long term, exceptional and dedicated service unto the Barony rendered with courtesy, chivalry, loyalty and graciousness. This is a polling order and is the highest honour that bestowed by the Baron and Baroness unto their people.
Award of the Amber Crystal - This is equal to the Chalice’s Crystal. This Award shall be given at the discretion of the Baron and/or Baroness to those branches, organized groups, households, committees, or guilds that have performed exemplary service to the Barony through such efforts as running events, sponsoring lunch tables, holding raffles for the benefit of the Barony, serving as entourage, Baronial guard, etc.
Award of the Spider - Given for skill and/or support of the Arts & Sciences, while always being courteous chivalrous and gracious.
Order of the Golden Spider - Given for exceptional skill and/or support in the Arts & Sciences, with courtesy, chivalry & graciousness, as well as the willingness to teach and encourage these arts or sciences.
Award of the Warriors of the Chalice - Given for skill in medieval martial activities (fighting, archery, scouting, fencing). This award represents skill, chivalry, loyalty and bravery on and off the field of battle.
Order of the Protectors of the Chalice - Given for exceptional skill, chivalry, loyalty and bravery in medieval martial activities (fighting, archery, scouting, fencing) as well as encouraging and teaching these skills to others. This is a consulting order.
Tancred's Tankard - Given in recognition for awesome-ness. Tancred’s Tankard is not an award but it is bestowed on an individual who embodies the heart and spirit of the Barony of Rising Waters Community.
Award of the Silver Spider - Given for journeyman level skill and/or support in the Arts & Sciences, with courtesy, chivalry & graciousness, as well as the willingness to teach and encourage these arts or sciences.
Award of the Golden Lion-Dragon - Given to Rising Waters youth, in recognition for their contributions to the Barony in service, arts & science, and martial arts. Recipients are recognized for their courteous and noble attitudes and behaviour within the Rising Waters community.
Award of the Red Pillar - Given to allies of Rising Waters, in recognition of their contributions and continued friendship to the Barony.
